Creative Activities at Shiplake

The extracurricular program unites the Camerata choir alongside the Shiplake vocal ensemble, Soul Band, and the orchestra for younger students, performing during assemblies and religious services. Pupils consistently take part in major events and collaborative concerts with nearby educational institutions, as visiting professional musicians conduct masterclasses and trips to London enhance the educational journey.

Musical Development

The contemporary music facility is housed in the John Turner Building, featuring a recording studio next to seven rehearsal spaces, two group learning rooms, and a presentation hall equipped with a Baby Grand piano. Significant musical performances occur in both the Great Hall and Sports Hall, each providing excellent environments for major concerts.

Music at Shiplake College

All Year 7 and 8 pupils are provided with complimentary orchestral instrument instruction and have the opportunity to become members of the younger students’ orchestra. Frequent musical occasions feature Shiplake Rocks! alongside the House Singing contest, where musical captains, referred to as the first octave, arrange these events and oversee all musical groups. Pupil accomplishments receive recognition via Colours Blazer, Full Colours, and Half Colours distinctions, celebrating commitment and ability.

Theatre Arts

The Tithe Barn performance space located in the Stableyard section offers a close-quarters venue for artistic presentations. Established in 2014, the Scruffy Penguin performing arts company has developed its standing by delivering striking shows in non-traditional venues such as agricultural properties or beach settings. During 2016, Shiplake pupils presented Lightless at the Edinburgh Fringe festival.
